Plan Assets Exceed $2 Billion

The 2008-2009 market downturn had a significant impact on the market value of the SCERA pension trust fund. However, as long-term investors the Retirement Board stayed true to the fund’s investment policy, which drives the majority of the fund’s investment return over time. When the market recovered, SCERA was positioned to take advantage of the recovery. After the stock market recovery of the last four years, the market value of the fund’s assets recently exceeded $2 billion for the first time. In fact, despite the 2008/09 market downturn, SCERA’s long-term investment returns are once again consistent with our long-term expectations.
