I.  CONSENT CALENDAR

All agenda items on the Consent calendar will be approved in a single motion unless a Trustee, staff member or member of the public requests separate action on a specific item.

A.  Retirement Board Meeting Minutes - March 19, 2026.

B.  Active/Deferred Member Deaths - April 2026.

Recommendation: Approve Consent Calendar Items A and B.

The Board of Retirement will move into Executive Session and close the meeting to all attendees who are not necessary for the determination of a disability retirement or consideration of a public employee performance evaluation. Those attendees will physically exit the Board room and/or will be placed in the virtual Zoom lobby by the host and will neither hear nor see the meeting. All meeting attendees will be re-admitted to the meeting when the Board returns to open session.

II.  EXECUTIVE SESSION

Executive Session. Meeting closed pursuant to Government Code section 54957(b) to consider the employment status and evaluation of performance of a SCERA member or members as concerns eligibility for a disability retirement. Disability Committee Chair will report on recommendations made by the Committee at the April 23, 2026, meeting:

A.  Disability Applications:

1.  BRAD STIBI, Deputy Sheriff II, filed 10/14/24, for a service connected disability retirement. Consideration under Gov’t Code 31729.

2.  GISELLE RUIZ, Social Worker III, filed 4/14/25, for a non-service connected disability retirement. Consideration under Government Code Section 31725.65 (reemployment plan) is requested.

3.  IRMA ALEXANDER, Appeals Program Specialist, service retired on 11/02/23, and filed for a service connected disability retirement on 04/23/25. Applicant is requesting an earlier effective date under Government Code Section 31724.

4.  LISA BOEHM, Correctional Deputy II, filed 08/28/25, for a service connected disability retirement.

5.  RYAN DEMARTA, Deputy Sheriff II, filed 09/24/25, for a service connected disability retirement. Consideration under Gov’t Code 31729.

6.  GARY LAWSON, Sheriff’s Sergeant, filed 08/15/25, for a service connected disability retirement. Consideration under Gov’t Code 31729.

7.  MATTHEW MANN, Correctional Deputy II, filed 08/06/24 for a service connected disability retirement. Consideration under Gov’t Code 31729.

8.  BENJAMIN PIKE, Deputy Sheriff II, filed 04/15/25 for a service connected disability retirement. Consideration under Gov’t Code 31729.

B.  Proposed Decision:

VERANICA BURRELL (AKA SAVITSKAYA), Correctional Deputy II, filed 05/02/23, for service connected disability retirement. On October 19, 2023, the Retirement Board denied application for a service connected disability retirement.

The Board of Retirement will move out of Executive Session and reopen the meeting to all attendees that were placed in the lobby during the closed session period.

Recommendation: Direct Voting Delegate to vote in favor of the SACRS Officer Slate.

Notify Julia Smith if you plan to attend any future event. Please note, if out of state travel to attend a conference is not approved in the Budget separate approval from the Board must be obtained prior to attending the conference.

1.  SACRS Spring Conference, May 12 to 15, 2026, The Everline Resort & Spa at Lake Tahoe, Olympic Valley, CA. Trustees Eaton, Walsh, Williamson, and Gonce are planning to attend.

2.  CALAPRS Trustee Roundtable (Topic: Good Governance), Virtual, 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. May 29, 2026.

3.  CALAPRS Principles of Pension Governance for Trustees, August 24 to 27, 2026, Santa Barbara Inn, Santa Barbara, CA.

VI.  GENERAL DISCUSSION ITEMS

Opportunity to advise the Board of new matters and for Trustees to ask questions for clarification, provide information to staff, request staff to report back on a matter or direct staff to place a matter on a subsequent agenda.

VII.  PUBLIC COMMENT

Opportunity for public comments on non-agenda items within the jurisdiction of the Retirement Board.
